Types of Virtual Machines
Standard Deployment
Our "standard" Virtual Machine which is provisioned into workspaces is a DS3 v2 machine which has the following spec:
- 4 vCPUs
- 14 GiB RAM
- 28GiB temp storage
This deployment can be made with either a Linux or a Windows machine. Windows machines have a familiar interface and can be used by anyone who is used to using a windows laptop/pc in their normal day to day work. Linux machines provide better command line interaction and can be utilised well by more experienced programmers or analysts. They also include a graphical interface for less experienced users.
Data Science image
The standard machines (described above) don't have a lot of software preinstalled and require the user to install their own software to use. Data science images include a list of software which is pre-installed and ready to use. The images and included software is described in an article here.
