Types of Virtual Machines
Standard Deployment
Our "standard" Virtual Machine which is provisioned into workspaces is a DS3 v2 machine which has the following spec:
- 4 vCPUs
- 14 GiB RAM
- 28GiB temp storage
This deployment can be made with either a Linux or a Windows machine.
Windows machines have a familiar interface and can be used by anyone who is used to using a windows laptop or pc in their normal day to day work.
Linux machines provide better command line interaction and can be utilised well by more experienced programmers or analysts. They also include a graphical interface for less experienced users.
Data Science image
The standard machines (described above) don't have a lot of software preinstalled and require the user to install their own software to use.
Data science images include a list of software which is pre-installed and ready to use. The images and included software is described in an article here.
