Archiving Users in FAIR

This article details the process for archiving a user in FAIR

How can I archive a user?

An administrator can archive a user by navigating to the 'Users' tab.

When a user is selected to be archived, the following pop up will appear:

The administrator can choose to expire any API tokens associated with the user and archive any data access requests they have submitted.

They must provide a reason for archiving the account , this will be visible on the users profile page.

What happens when a user is archived?

Archiving a user has a number of consequences:

  • Their account will be unapproved and not searchable
  • They are removed from the default view on the users tab
  • The users existing role is replaced by the 'archived' role, which has no permissions
  • They will be unsubscribed from any notifications
  • If selected the users API tokens will be expired and any DARs will be archived

If an archived user attempts to log-in they will see the following message:

You have been archived.png

Any links to datasets or user groups will remain, and can be deleted by the appropriate data owner or group administrator.

How can I restore an archived user?

An administrator can view all archived users by enabling the 'archived' filter on the users tab (greyed out below):

This makes archived users visible in the user list, and the user can be reactivated using the Archived toggle. Once a user has been restored their account needs to be reapproved.
