Data Access Requests (DAR)

Data Access Requests (DAR) allow users to request access to datasets in FAIR.

A Data Access Request is defined by the data owner who decides what information is required to be supplied by the requestor but also the stages in the DAR process (i.e the workflow). To become requestable, a dataset must be assigned a DAR workflow and have at least one dictionary/table (i.e. some data to request).

A user of FAIR such as a researcher can therefore search for datasets using the data discovery mechanisms in FAIR, identify a dataset as relevant via its metadata and then request access to the dataset. In most cases, users will have to provide information on why they require access, their research project details and information about themselves for verification purposes. The data owner receives such requests for the dataset, including a notification, reviews the request and is able to approve or deny the request. The approval of a request can unlock a pre-defined action, such as data delivery to an Aridhia Workspace. See the following articles for more information on requesting access, viewing requests and reviewing requests:

Supported DAR Workflows

Currently FAIR supports one DAR workflow that can be assigned to datasets. The supported DAR workflow is a basic request->review->decision workflow where a user requests access, the data owner reviews the request and makes an approval or denial decision. This decision is then reflected back to the user.
